Meet Fern!
My name is Fern (she/her), a 13 1/2-year-old who loves to write poetry, draw pictures of animals, play my trombone, and crochet mini veggies out of yarn. (Don't laugh; the eggplant is one of my most prized possessions!) Tie dye and orange Crocs, topped off with a crown of flowers, are my daily wardrobe go-to’s. I try to ignore my new classmates’ snickers about my unique fashion sense, but I have to admit it always stings a little. I'm the only child of a single mother, Gloria (aka Glow). Glow has a bee-hive hairdo (didn’t those go out with poodle skirts?) and works as a waitress at the local greasy spoon (yes, it’s actually named the Greasy Spoon). Not great for my reputation as a culinary goddess. I spend most of my free time reading cookbooks and making notes in my food journal. I have a rescue dog, Sally; two cats, Plus and Minus (don’t ask); eight mice, named after notes in the musical scale; a pair of canaries, Sweetie and Tweetie; and seven chickens that Glow named after items on the menu at Taco Bell. My number one snack? Strawberry yogurt with granola sprinkled on top! How about you?
